KUALA LUMPUR--Shares of AirAsia Group Bhd. plunged in the morning session, following reports its 45%-owned Thai associate has announced mass layoffs.

The low-cost airline's shares fell as much as 13% to their lowest level since Sept, 22, before paring losses to trade 8.0% lower at MYR1.04.

Thai media reported earlier Friday that Thai AirAsia told employees the aviation outlook remains unstable, prompting the airline to reduce its fleet size and work force next year to maintain financial stability.
