Goodfood Market Corp. reported Wednesday that it swung to a loss in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2021, as the effects of reopening and seasonality weighed on revenue.
For the three months ended Aug. 31, the Canadian online grocery, home-meal and meal-kit company said loss per share was 30 Canadian cents (24 U.S. cents), compared with a per-share profit of C$0.02 a year earlier. Net loss was C$22.1 million, compared with a net profit of C$1.2 million, it said.
Net sales fell 5% to C$79.4 million from C$83.7 million, it said. The company attributed the decrease primarily to the effects of reopening and the return of seasonality stemming from the removal of Covid-19-related restrictions.
"We expect these headwinds to stabilize as the year progresses and the return to normalcy continues, with our newly launched one-hour on-demand delivery providing the key platform for growth," Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Ferrari said.
