Tesla, Inc. 's share price has risen recently, and Michael Burley, the prototype character of the movie "Big short", recently announced that he was no longer shorting Tesla, Inc.. But Mr Chanos says he still maintains a short position in Tesla, Inc. of just over 1 per cent, joking: "We are still banging our heads against a brick wall."

Mr Chanos said Tesla, Inc., which is just a car company, is trading at nearly 120 times expected earnings next year. Many people see Tesla, Inc. as a technology company and invest their hard-earned money in it because they think it offers more than just the potential for electric cars.

But Chanos does not think so, he said: "We just think that this is absolutely stupid, [Tesla, Inc.] valuation is more than all the other competitors in the global auto industry combined." It just highlights the risks. " He said.

When it comes to shorting IBM, Chanos says IBM represents the idea that sometimes the biggest scam is right under your nose. He believes the company reported misleading figures by using pro forma accounting.

"from our point of view, what's really attractive is that if you look at IBM's operating income, plus their IP royalty stream and taxed at the normal 21%, the actual profit is $6," Chanos said. IBM is expected to report earnings per share of about $11 for 2021, "so there is a gap of nearly $5 between IBM's actual earnings this year and what they claim to be expected on an 'adjusted basis'."
