According to media reports, we learned from the China Shipbuilding Group Economic Research Center that since 2021, the overall international shipbuilding market has been clearly boosted, and global demand for new ships has risen markedly. According to statistics from relevant agencies, more than 350 shipowners placed shipbuilding orders in the first three quarters, an increase of 220.8% over the previous year in terms of tonnage.

According to statistics from the China Shipbuilding Industry Association, in January-August, the number of new ship orders received in China continued to grow at a relatively rapid pace, with the number of completed shipbuilding and handheld orders increasing year on year. Data shows that in the first 8 months, the country's shipbuilding completed 26.26 million DWT, an increase of 9.0% over the previous year. Orders for new ships were received for 49.11 million DWT, an increase of 227.2% over the previous year. At the end of August, orders for handheld ships were 91.47 million DWT, an increase of 26.0% over the previous year and an increase of 28.6% over the end of 2020.

Shen Wan Hongyuan pointed out that orders for bulk carriers have begun to increase. Turkey's Ciner DenizCilik placed orders for 3 environmentally friendly 88800 DWT bulk carriers from Chengxi Shipyard and 4 environmentally friendly 63000 DWT bulk carriers from New Ocean Shipyard. Guangxi Xintian Shipping placed an order for 4 10800 DWT bulk carriers. The Chinese shipyard received new orders for 2 2,900 TEU container ships and 2 7999 DWT tankers. At the same time, new shipbuilding prices for all types of ships continue to rise. On September 17, the Clarkson New Shipbuilding Price Index closed at 148, up 16.0% from the beginning of the year, the dry bulk new shipbuilding price index closed at 157, up 27.3% from the beginning of the year, and the new tanker shipbuilding price index closed at 177, up 21.8% from the beginning of the year. Prices for new shipbuilding, the main container models, increased 27.5%-42.9% from the beginning of the year. In September, the Clarkson used ship price index closed at 168, up 69.3% from the beginning of the year, the dry bulk used ship price index closed at 170, up 60.3% from the beginning of the year, and the tanker used ship price index closed at 118, up 5.6% from the beginning of the year. The used container ship price index closed at 92, up 110.1% from the beginning of the year.

According to the official website of China Shipbuilding Group, with the signing of a batch of 7,000 TEU container ship contracts for Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China Shipbuilding Group, on August 27, China Shipbuilding Group once again completed the revised annual operating acceptance target four months ahead of schedule, and the amount of domestic shipbuilding undertakings carried out throughout the year exceeded the 100 billion mark.

Shen Wan Hongyuan believes that the recommended priority for the shipbuilding sector has been raised, and the inflection point of prosperity has arrived early. Currently, it is at the bottom of the important layout stage. It is expected that the increase in the volume and price of new shipbuilding will continue to be further catalyzed by the BDI index in the fourth quarter. The main recommendation focuses on China Shipping, Singapore Yangzijiang Shipbuilding (BS6). The leasing sector focuses on Chinese ship leasing, Atlas Corp.
