Although the Hong Kong stock market opened lower today, driven by the rise in the mainland stock market, Hong Kong stocks quickly stopped falling and turned upward, but the increase did not expand further. The Hang Seng Index maintained a slight increase for most of the day, closing up 0.04%, and a decline of 0.8% shortly after opening. The weighted stock Tencent (0700.HK) declined at the end of the session and closed down 0.7%, which dragged down the market to a certain extent. Insurer Ping An of China (2318.HK) rose 2.1%, while automaker Geely (0175.HK) rose 1.7%. All three of these companies will announce their 2017 results this week. Li Ka-shing confirmed his retirement on Friday. The stock prices of his listed companies are lower today. Furthermore, the H-share index fell 0.1%, dragged down by the weakness of Vanke Corporation (2202.HK) and Air China (0753.HK).
