According to Porsche officials, Porsche unveiled a new Mission R concept car at the 2021 German International Motor Show. Porsche said that the Mission R concept car is a purely electric racing car, combining cutting-edge technology, sustainable materials such as natural fiber reinforced plastics, and brand passion for racing, not only with avant-garde design and extremely low suspension. It also inherits the iconic lines of this Stuttgart sports car brand. Two newly developed motors work together to enable the Porsche Mission R concept car to achieve an output power of 800kW (1088 PS) in ranking mode. With a battery capacity of about 80 kWh, coupled with an innovative energy recovery system, the Mission R concept car has the possibility of completing a sprint race with zero loss.
The four-wheel drive model has an output power of no more than 1100 PS in ranking mode and can accelerate from rest to 100km/h in 2.5 seconds. The top speed is 300 km/h. On the track, the lap time of this pure electric car is on a par with that of the current Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. The newly designed motor and battery core are equipped with innovative straight-oil cooling, which enables the Mission R concept car to achieve a continuous output power of up to 500 kW (680 PS) in race mode. The so-called reduction, that is, the reduction in battery output power caused by thermal conditions, can be eliminated.
The output power of the motor on the front axle is 320 kW (435 PS), and that on the rear axle is 480 kW (653 PS). The Mission R concept car is equipped with advanced 900V technology and Porsche Turbo charging technology, and the remaining power can be recharged from 5% to 80% in just 15 minutes of entry time during the race. The charging power can reach 340 kW. Another advanced development of the Mission R concept car is the Porsche active aerodynamic system (PAA) with drag reduction system (DRS) at the front and tail, including three grille with two side air intakes in the front, and an adjustable two-stage tail.
The body of the Mission R concept car also focuses on CO2 emission reduction and sustainability: the body is heavily made of natural fiber reinforced plastic (NFRP), whose basic material is made of flax fiber extracted from crops. This ecological material is used for front spoiler lips, diffusers and side skirt plates. Natural fiber reinforced plastics are widely used in Mission R interiors, such as inner door panels, rear bulkheads and seats.
The interior of the Mission R concept car is all driver-centered. Between the controls of the steering wheel, an ergonomic display can display information about the game. The screen above the steering column displays images from the side mirror camera and the central rearview mirror camera. The touch screen on the right side of the seat can call information such as driver biometric data. A large number of other cameras are also set up in the interior, which can be used to broadcast live pictures.
The safety structure of carbon fiber composites not only provides good protection for drivers, but also is light and unique in shape. Porsche engineers and designers call the newly developed carbon fiber roof structure an "exoskeleton" (exoskeleton). It combines the safety cage and the roof surface. The length of the Mission R concept car is 4326mm, which is slightly shorter than the current 718 Cayman series, the width is significantly increased to 1990mm, and the external height is significantly reduced to only 1190mm.
