Yannis Stournaras, a member of the ECB's governing council, said the central bank should not read too much into the surge in eurozone inflation as it prepares for next week's policy decision.
"according to most estimates, the recent surge in inflation is due to temporary factors related to many supply-side bottlenecks caused by the outbreak," he said.
"wage changes and unit labour costs that determine core inflation do not show the same volatility as headline inflation," he said. "therefore, on the basis of this evidence, I would like to advise caution in judging the direction of inflation relative to the medium-term target."
In contrast to the Stournaras, hawkish members such as Klaas Knot and Robert Holzmann believe that the ECB should slow down its bond purchases in the fourth quarter as the economy improves.
