The US government will begin vaccinating Americans with novel coronavirus vaccine fortifier as soon as mid-late September, depending on the date of FDA approval.

Health officials in the Biden administration agreed that most people should receive booster vaccinations eight months after their first vaccination, Reuters reported. Biden administration officials plan to announce the decision as early as this week, with the first batch of nursing home residents and health care workers likely to be vaccinated, followed by other elderly people.

FDA announced last week that it approved emergency use of the mRNA COVID-19 vaccine jointly developed by Pfizer Inc and BioNTech and Moderna Inc, allowing people with low immunity and people over the age of 65 to receive a third booster shot.

Pfizer Inc and BioNTech had previously announced that early data submitted to US regulators showed that a third booster shot eight to nine months after the completion of the first two doses of COVID-19 vaccination would produce higher levels of protective antibodies. This means that the vaccination strengthening needle can greatly enhance the immune protection against novel coronavirus and Delta mutant strains.

Outside analysts believe that Pfizer Inc and Moderna Inc will benefit from the policy of strengthening injections. If ordinary people need regular injections to strengthen the COVID-19 vaccine, the market size of the vaccine will be comparable to that of influenza vaccines, which sell more than 600m doses of vaccine a year.

Market analysts believe that, as industry leaders, Pfizer Inc and Moderna Inc's vaccine enhancements may have greater pricing power before more competitors pour into the market.

Pfizer Inc initially sold the vaccine in the US and EU for $19.50 and EUR 19.50 per dose respectively, but in subsequent supply transactions, the price increased by 24 per cent and 25 per cent respectively.
