On Friday (January 17), traders rushed to buy Call options for Exchange-traded Funds (ETFs) linked to Chinese stock indices. Chris Murphy, co-head of derivatives strategy at Susquehanna International Group, stated that investors bought Call options that give them the right to purchase about 4 million shares of the iShares Core MSCI China Index ETF (symbol: FXI) at a price of $31-32 before the end of next week, and also bought some options expiring in February. Other China-related Funds also exhibited similar demand, including the KraneShares CSI Overseas China Internet ETF (symbol: KWEB). These ETFs surged on Friday, with FXI rising 2.9% at one point and KWEB rising 4.4%, both marking their largest gains in over a month.
