The South Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare stated on Friday that it will soon hold public discussions on the possibility of raising the minimum age threshold for seniors. Previously, the Korean Senior Citizens Association proposed gradually adjusting the age threshold for seniors to 75. The current age threshold for seniors in South Korea is 65 years, and according to this standard, South Korea entered a super-aged society last month, where seniors account for more than 20% of the total population. The South Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare also stated that it plans to listen to expert opinions on the proposal to extend the retirement age, as well as discuss adjustments to welfare policies such as discounts for seniors using public transportation, and it pledged to create 1.1 million job positions for seniors this year.
