On January 10, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan announced that starting from January 23, Japan will prohibit the export of an additional 335 products to Russia, including Auto Parts and stamping tools among other Metal Products. The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) stated that part of the purpose of the latest measures is to restrict Russia's access to materials necessary for industrial development. The newly listed items include Auto Parts like engines, partly to prevent them from being used for military purposes. According to data compiled by Argus based on Japanese customs data, Japan exported approximately 20,464 tons of engine parts to Russia in 2024, a decrease of 17% year-on-year.
