On January 9 local time, the Lebanese National Assembly convened a meeting to elect a new president. Former Lebanese President Michel Aoun resigned on October 31, 2022, and since then, the position of Lebanese president has remained vacant. According to the Lebanese Constitution, the president is elected by the assembly for a term of 6 years. If a candidate receives the support of two-thirds of the members in the assembly, which is 86 out of 128, they are automatically elected.
