USA's long-term allies are facing unprecedented threats, and Trump goes to great lengths to promote manufacturing prosperity and eliminate trade deficits, displaying a great deal of risk-taking. However, there are starkly different views within Trump's team on how best to achieve his vision. In Trump's new team, there are several factions. His nominated Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick, and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer agree with Trump's campaign promises, hoping to raise tariffs on both USA allies and rivals to resolve trade imbalances. However, Trump's nominated Secretary of the Treasury, Scott Bessent, and White House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett are relatively less hardline on tariffs and prefer to introduce market-friendly policies.
