On January 3, FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker stated that nearly one year after an incident involving an Alaska Air Boeing 737 MAX 9 where a cabin door detached, the FAA's stricter oversight of Boeing will continue indefinitely. Following the incident on January 5 of last year, the FAA Administrator limited the monthly production of the 737 MAX to 38 planes and temporarily grounded 170 aircraft. This incident exposed serious safety issues in American aircraft manufacturing and led to the resignation of then Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun.
