Apple Inc. has agreed to pay 95 million USD in cash to settle a class-action lawsuit. The lawsuit accused the company of obtaining private communication contents through Siri without consent and sharing it with third parties. The plaintiffs claimed that Siri was inadvertently activated and shared confidential or private conversation contents that the voice assistant heard with Apple. The proposed settlement agreement requires Apple to address these alleged privacy violations and to confirm that it has permanently deleted any Siri personal audio recordings obtained before October 2019, six months after the settlement agreement takes effect. The settlement agreement will also require the iPhone manufacturer to disclose details and inform users how to choose to improve Siri. Apple has denied any wrongdoing. The case is presided over by Judge Jeffrey White in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The case still requires final approval from the court.
