三星和SK海力士在EUV光刻技术领域分道扬镳

Samsung and SK Hynix have parted ways in the field of EUV lithography technology

According to reports, Samsung is focusing on improving yield, while SK Hynix is focusing on long-term technological progress. South Korea's two major semiconductor giants, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, have adopted different strategies in extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography technology, which has attracted great attention from the industry. As part of the year-end organizational restructuring, Samsung Electronics established a new working group (TF) called “EUV Synergy TF” under the global manufacturing and infrastructure headquarters. The move is seen as an effort to improve yield in ultra-fine semiconductor manufacturing, such as a 3 nm (nm) foundry. In contrast, SK Hynix took a different approach. The company disbanded EUV TF during this year's organizational restructuring and merged it into the Future Technology Research Institute. The move highlights SK Hynix's focus on long-term technological progress rather than an immediate increase in production. SK Hynix began applying EUV to its 10nm fourth generation DRAM in 2021, and currently operates more than 10 EUV machines at its M16 plant in Icheon.
