On Wednesday, Musk revealed on the Social Media platform X that he is using Eli Lilly and Co's Mounjaro for weight loss. Musk posted a photo of himself dressed as Santa Claus standing next to a Christmas tree on X, captioned "Ozempic Santa Claus." He later confirmed in several posts that he is indeed using a drug similar to Ozempic for weight loss. He explained, "Strictly speaking, I am using Mounjaro, but that name doesn't sound as interesting." Ozempic is a diabetes drug from Novo-Nordisk A/S, while Wegovy is the company's weight loss drug, both with the same active ingredient, Semaglutide. Mounjaro, on the other hand, is a diabetes drug launched by Eli Lilly and Co, with the same active ingredient as its weight loss drug Zepbound, which is Tirzepatide. Musk revealed that he initially tried using Ozempic for weight loss because high doses of the drug would make him "fart and burp like Barney from The Simpsons." He added, "The side effects of Mounjaro seem to be less, and it works better."
