Cui Dongshu, Secretary General of the China Passenger Car Association, stated that the import volume of cars in China has continuously declined at an annual rate of about 8% from 1.24 million units in 2017, down to only 0.8 million units in 2023. From January to November 2024, car imports were 0.64 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 11%. In November, imported cars totaled 0.06 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 27% but increased by 38% compared to October. As China's auto industry continues to strengthen, the electrification transformation has changed the structure of market demand, leading to a continuous shrinkage in demand for gasoline vehicles, and a significant decline in demand for imported gasoline vehicles has also been observed. With the complexity of international relations, it is critical to prepare in advance to establish more complex import models and maintain a reasonable scale of imported vehicles.
