On December 23 local time, the Brazilian Ministry of Labor and Employment (MPT, Ministério Público do Trabalho) announced that a working group composed of six government agencies found that 163 workers at BYD's factory in Camaçari, Bahia state, were living in harsh conditions, and some workers were moved to a hotel on the same day. Officials stated that the site dormitories and some construction sites have been closed and are under suspension until the relevant departments complete comprehensive rectification, after which the sites may be reopened. The announcement explained that this series of investigations began in mid-November and is still ongoing. The aforementioned 163 workers are employees of China Jinjiang Construction Brazil Ltd, which provides outsourcing services for BYD, and these workers reside in four construction site dormitories in Camaçari. The Brazilian side did not disclose the nationality of the workers. (Caixin Net)
