UnionPay International announced a partnership with WeChat Pay to support overseas UnionPay cooperative wallets scanning mainland WeChat Pay collection codes for payment. The electronic wallets in Hong Kong, including BOC HONG KONG BoC Pay, Octopus, PayMe by HSBC, and Tap & Go, are among the first to enable this feature. Once this cooperation is implemented, overseas wallet users participating in the program can bind a physical UnionPay card or open digital card issuance within the wallet, allowing them to scan WeChat Pay collection codes for payment in the mainland, with the local currency automatically converted to RMB during the transaction. Additionally, Bangkok Bank Mobile Banking and K PLUS from Thailand, NAVER Pay from South Korea, and ICBC Mobile Banking (ICBC Pay) from Malaysia are also among the first electronic wallets to enable this function.
