Volkswagen management and labor representatives will resume negotiations on Tuesday morning local time to discuss the factory cost-cutting plan. A 13-hour negotiation took place on Monday but failed to reach an agreement. The union stated on Monday evening that it is currently 'completely unclear' whether Tuesday's negotiations will bring both sides closer to an agreement or lead to a deadlock. The union insists that any solution must exclude the possibility of closing factories, while Volkswagen maintains that this possibility cannot be ruled out. Both sides are expected to negotiate for several days, as this is the last chance to reach an agreement and avoid conflict before Christmas. The union has threatened that if no agreement is reached this week, it will take unprecedented strike action in the new year. Earlier on Monday, the union chairman told union members: 'Workers do not want to spend Christmas in fear.'
