On December 15-16, 2024, the China-US Financial Working Group held its seventh meeting in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. The meeting was co-chaired by Xuan Changneng, Deputy Governor of the People's Bank of China, and Neiman, Assistant Secretary of the Treasury of the USA. The meeting was attended by the National Financial Regulatory Administration, the China Securities Regulatory Commission, as well as the Federal Reserve and the Securities and Exchange Commission of the USA.
The Chinese side introduced the deployment of next year's economic work as outlined in the Central Political Bureau's meeting and the Central Economic Work Conference. The two sides engaged in professional, pragmatic, candid, and constructive communication on topics of mutual concern, including the China-US economic and financial situation, monetary policy, financial stability and regulation, international financial governance, securities and capital markets, anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing, along with other financial policy issues. The meeting heard reports from technical expert groups, including the incorporation of climate factors in balance of payments data compilation and macroeconomic modeling. The two sides also held discussions with local governments and regulatory agencies. The Chinese side raised concerns regarding relevant issues with the USA.
As a result of this meeting, the National Financial Regulatory Administration of China and the Federal Insurance Office of the USA signed a revised memorandum of understanding on strengthening exchanges and cooperation in the insurance industry between the two sides.
Since its establishment, the China-US Financial Working Group has engaged in professional and pragmatic communication in the financial sector. Dialogue in the financial field between the two sides helps to responsibly manage China-US relations and contributes to the maintenance of global financial stability.
