The political situation in Syria changed dramatically in December. In a recent interview with Russian media, John Mearsheimer, a political science professor at the University of Chicago, stated that it is unlikely that a coherent government will emerge in Damascus. After the fall of the Assad regime, Syria might fall into considerable chaos in the foreseeable future.
