James Peng, the CEO and founder of Pony.ai based in Guangzhou, stated in an interview with the Financial Times that the production costs for Self-Driving Taxi companies in China should decrease next year. The company plans to increase its fleet of autonomous ride-hailing services (Robotaxi) from the current approximately 250 vehicles to at least 1,000 by 2025, due to lower manufacturing costs and the expansion of service areas in first-tier cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen. Two-thirds of the company's revenue comes from Self-Driving Truck services. The company plans to collaborate with two local state-owned Auto Manufacturers to "mass-produce thousands" of robot taxis annually.
