According to reports, 26-year-old former OpenAI researcher Suchir Balaji was recently found dead in his San Francisco apartment. Suchir left OpenAI earlier this year and publicly expressed concerns that the company was violating USA copyright laws while developing the ChatGPT chatbot. Sewell, the executive director of the San Francisco Chief Medical Examiner's Office, stated, "The manner of death has been determined to be suicide." OpenAI is currently involved in legal disputes with several Publishers, authors, and artists over allegations of using copyrighted material as AI training data. In December of last year, some news organizations filed a lawsuit, holding OpenAI and its main supporter Microsoft responsible for billions of dollars in losses.
