On December 13 local time, a CCTV reporter learned that the latest report from the U.S. Department of Justice shows that suburban police departments in New York frequently violate residents' civil rights, including illegal arrests and unnecessary strip searches and cavity searches. This report is one of 12 investigations the Department of Justice has conducted into local police Institutions since 2021. The report states that until at least fall 2022, the Vernon Hills police would conduct strip searches on every arrested person. Illegal strip searches and cavity searches continued at least until 2023. Investigators indicated that although this practice was 'restricted' during the investigation, it is uncertain whether these practices have ended. (CCTV News)
