Veteran centrist politician François Bayrou was appointed Prime Minister by President Macron on Friday, and he now must form a government after his brief predecessor, Michel Barnier, attempted to push through budget legislation that was overturned by the National Assembly. Bayrou may face the same struggle. Reynolds stated, "The government seems unlikely to have the willingness or ability to address France's fiscal problems." This year's budget deficit in France is set to widen further, exceeding the levels that European authorities consider acceptable.
