Reuters survey shows that most economists expect that President-elect Trump will impose tariffs of less than 10% or no tariffs at all on commodities imported from the United Kingdom next year, which will have a negligible impact on the UK economy. This sharply contrasts with a similar poll from last month, which indicated widespread concern that the European Union would face more severe impacts. The United Kingdom officially left the EU in 2020. Economists are somewhat optimistic about the United Kingdom partly because, although trade with the USA accounts for one-fifth of the UK's total trade, the proposed tariffs will focus on commodities, while only one-third of the UK's exports are commodities.
