On Thursday, Malaysia established a National AI Office aimed at developing policies and addressing regulatory issues, hoping to position itself as a regional center for AI development. In the past year, this Southeast Asian country has attracted billions of dollars in investment from global Technology companies seeking to build critical infrastructure to meet the growing demand for their Cloud Computing and AI services. The country's Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said at the inauguration ceremony of the new office: "This is another historic moment in our digital transformation journey." According to details published on its website, the office is expected to serve as the central institution for AI, providing services such as strategic planning, research and development, and regulation. The Malaysian government also announced on Thursday the establishment of strategic partnerships with six companies, including Amazon, Google, and Microsoft, which have all announced Datacenter, Cloud Computing, and AI projects in Malaysia over the past year.
