Recently, Huang Yiping, the deputy secretary-general of the China Financial Society and the director of the National Development Research Institute of Peking University, stated at the 2024 China Financial Society Academic Annual Conference and China Financial Forum that the influence of local government behavior on macroeconomic policy has reversed in the past decade. The role of local governments regarding macro policies has changed from being an "amplifier" to a "suppressor". Huang Yiping suggested that to eliminate the contraction effect of local government behavior, efforts should be made from long-term, medium-term, and short-term perspectives. In particular, next year, on one hand, provide local governments with more general public budget revenues to ensure their sustainability; on the other hand, eliminate some irregular "revenue-generating" behaviors of local governments.
