Chile's state-owned institution Cochilco cited a research report in a newspaper article on Tuesday, stating that Chile plans to invest approximately $83.18 billion from this year to 2033, a 27% increase from last year's estimate. Chile is the world's largest copper producer and the second largest lithium producer, with lithium being a primary component of rechargeable batteries. Chile's financial newspaper Diario Financiero reported that Cochilco's report does not include the recent $14 billion expansion plan announced by mining giant BHP Group Ltd, whose projects in Chile include the world's largest copper mine Escondida. Therefore, the report suggests that the total investment plan could reach nearly $100 billion.
