On December 2, 2024, China's Special Envoy on Middle East Affairs, Zhai Jun, attended the Ministerial Conference on Advancing Gaza Humanitarian Relief in Cairo, Egypt. The meeting was jointly hosted by Egypt and the United Nations, with representatives from over 100 countries and regions, as well as international organizations. Zhai Jun expressed deep concern and sorrow on behalf of China regarding the humanitarian disaster in Gaza. To fundamentally alleviate the Gaza crisis, a comprehensive and unconditional ceasefire must be achieved. The most pressing issue is to ensure the rapid and unimpeded entry of humanitarian relief supplies into Gaza. Of paramount importance is to support the United Nations in playing a greater role in the Palestinian issue, and to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East in carrying out its duties. Fundamental guarantee lies in the effective implementation of international law, particularly international humanitarian law. Zhai Jun stated that following the outbreak of the Gaza conflict, China has provided emergency financial assistance to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East and the Palestinian government, and has sent multiple batches of humanitarian aid to Gaza through Egypt. China will work with the international community to contribute wisdom and strength to the early cessation of the Gaza conflict, alleviate the humanitarian situation in Gaza, and promote the Palestinian issue to return to the correct track of the 'two-state solution'. During the conference, Special Envoy Zhai Jun also separately met with the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Abdel-Ati, and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Vershinin.
