California Governor Gavin Newsom announced on Monday local time that he is seeking up to an additional $25 million in funding for legal battles with the incoming US President, Trump's government. If approved by the legislature, the California Department of Justice and state institutions will receive additional funding for court battles in areas such as reproductive rights, environmental protection, and immigration. California spent $42 million during Trump's first term supporting lawsuits against the federal government, with the state filing over 120 lawsuits against the Trump administration. Newsom's office expects this special budget legislation to be signed into law before Trump's inauguration ceremony on January 20th.
