India's Statistics Minister Rao Inderjit Singh stated in a written response in Parliament on Monday that india will change the base year for GDP calculations from 2011-12 to 2022-23. The minister mentioned that an advisory committee consisting of government officials, members from the Reserve Bank of india, and academia will determine new data sources and provide recommendations on the methods used in the revised series. He added that these measures will improve the statistical system. Analysts have been calling for a faster release of GDP data and an adjustment of the base year. Last month, the government moved the release time for GDP and inflation data to earlier in the day, as economists reported that they did not have enough time to analyze the data.
