A leading think tank stated on Monday that driven by wars and regional tensions, the global top 100 defense equipment manufacturers saw a 4.2% increase in weapon sales in 2023, reaching 632 billion USD. Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) reported that the sales of U.S. companies on the list grew by 2.5% year-on-year, reaching 317 billion USD. However, market leaders Lockheed Martin (LMT.US) and RTX Corp (RTX.US) experienced a slight decrease in weapon sales. The total sales of European companies (excluding Russian companies) on the list remained roughly unchanged at 133 billion USD in 2023, but the order volume surged, with some groups seeing a significant increase in demand related to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Earlier this year, SIPRI reported a 7% increase in global military expenditure in 2023, the largest annual growth since 2009.
