On November 1, the 22nd China-South Korea steel official-civilian dialogue, initiated by the governments of both China and South Korea and jointly participated by the steel associations and companies of both countries, was held in Seoul, South Korea. Representatives from nine Chinese companies including government departments, China Iron and Steel Industry Association, and China Baowu, Ansteel, Shougang, Hesteel, Shagang, Citic Pacific Special Steel, Hunan Steel, Nanjing Iron and Steel, and Jiyeyingkou Zhongban, as well as over 60 representatives from South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Korea Iron and Steel Association, POSCO, Hyundai Steel, POSCO Holdings Company, Dongkuk Steel, KGSteel, and other units attended the meeting. Both sides respectively introduced the economic development, steel market, and trade trends of China and South Korea, focusing on candid discussions on trade issues such as the continuous growth of Chinese steel exports to South Korea and the impact on the Korean market, elaborating on their respective concerns. Both industries suggested that the two governments take necessary measures to ensure fair trade under the WTO framework. The Chinese side proposed to properly handle trade frictions through dialogue, negotiation, and industrial cooperation, prudently use trade remedies, and achieve mutually beneficial development of the steel industries of both countries.
