According to Rio Tinto, the company will cooperate with State Power Investment Corporation to conduct a pilot project for the application of pure electric-battery swap technology at the Oyu Tolgoi copper mine in Mongolia. The battery swap technology can quickly replenish the vehicle's energy by replacing the electric mining truck's battery at the swap station, without the need to charge the vehicle at fixed charging facilities. This technology has been widely used in mining operations in China. Through this cooperation, Rio Tinto will also demonstrate a complete battery electric truck ecosystem for the first time in its business operations. The project will last for two years and will pilot 8 mining trucks (with a load capacity of 91 tons), 13 batteries (800 kilowatt-hours), and a charging and swapping station in the non-production area of the Oyu Tolgoi open-pit mine.
