IBM released the latest version of its enterprise-focused ai model on Monday, hoping to leverage the trend of enterprises increasingly adopting generative AI technology. The Granite 3.0 model will be open source, similar to other versions in the IBM Granite series AI models. This approach is different from other competitors such as microsoft, who charge customers for accessing their models. In addition, IBM offers a paid tool called Watsonx to help run custom models within datacenters. Starting from Monday, some new Granite model variants on the Watsonx platform will be available for commercial use. Some of these models will also appear in nvidia's software tool stack to help enterprises integrate ai models. IBM Research Director Dario Gil stated that the new Granite models were trained using nvidia's H100 graphics processing unit (GPU).
