Economists surveyed by Bloomberg estimated a median decline of 0.2%. Manufacturing output in September fell by 0.4%, with the previous month's data significantly revised. Mining and energy extraction output declined by 0.6%, affected by hurricanes Francine and Helene. Utilities output rose for the first time in three months. The Federal Reserve stated that the strike by aircraft machinists is estimated to have caused an approximately 0.3% decline in industrial output, with the hurricanes also having an equal impact. Aerospace equipment output in September decreased by 8.3%. The manufacturing sector, which accounts for three-quarters of the total industrial output, is facing difficulties due to high interest rates and uncertainties surrounding the U.S. presidential election.
