Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong stated on Monday that Samsung has no intention of splitting its manufacturing chip manufacturing business and logic chip design business. Analysts say that due to weak demand, these two businesses have caused billions of dollars in losses annually, dragging down the overall performance of the world's largest memory chip maker. Lee Jae-yong announced his vision in 2019: by 2030, surpass Taiwan Semiconductor and become the world's largest manufacturing chip manufacturer. When asked if Samsung is considering spinning off its manufacturing chip manufacturing business and logic chip design business, Lee Jae-yong said, "We are eager to develop these businesses. We do not intend to split them." Analysts estimate that Samsung's foundry and system logic chip business operated at a loss of 3.18 trillion Korean won (2.4 billion dollars) last year, and these two businesses are expected to incur another loss of 2.08 trillion Korean won this year.
