According to the request of the Russian Federation Prosecutor General's Office, a ruling announced by a local court of arbitration in Moscow on October 2 revealed that the court has frozen a total of about 0.372 billion US dollars of assets belonging to the Bank of New York Mellon and JPMorgan in the USA. Russian media reports that the frozen assets of these two banks belong to a branch of a major Russian bank. Due to US restrictive measures and Ukrainian government attempts to liquidate this branch, the main office of the branch and its major shareholder, which is the Russian government, are unable to access the related assets. The decision to freeze the assets by the court is to protect the interests of the Russian Federation.
