According to reports, consulting firm stonex said on Friday that due to adverse weather and fire impacts in the main producing areas, the sugarcane crush volume in the central-southern region of Brazil for the 2025/26 season is expected to decrease by 3.2% from the previous year, to 0.5932 billion tons. stonex said this will be the second consecutive year of decline in sugarcane crush volume in Brazil's main sugar belt. The company expects the sugarcane crush volume to fall by 6.3% in the 2024/25 season after setting a record in the previous year. stonex stated in a report: "The preliminary outlook for the 2025/26 season remains uncertain." The report also stated that due to the region being in a "severe water shortage" since November 2023, rainfall will be "very necessary" starting from October. Brazil is currently the world's largest sugar supplier, accounting for 70% of global sugar export trade. Many regions in the country are facing historic droughts, affecting crops such as sugarcane. In recent months, wildfires across the country have increasingly caused market concerns.
