Shigeru Ishiba, the former Secretary-General of the Liberal Democratic Party, won the majority of votes in the second round of voting in the LDP presidential election on September 27th local time and was elected as the new president of the Liberal Democratic Party. The term of office of the current Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, as president of the Liberal Democratic Party will end on September 30th. As is customary, the newly elected President of the LDP, Shigeru Ishiba, is expected to succeed as the Prime Minister on October 1st through the National Diet nomination. Aged 67, Ishiba has run for party leader five times. He worked at a bank in his early years and has been involved in various fields such as agriculture, security, and local revitalization during his 38 years in politics.
