On the evening of August 27th local time, a storm swept through the Dalmatian coast of Croatia, with lightning causing nearly 10 forest fires. The situation in the fire in Neretva, northeast of Split, is severe. According to local fire department statistics, as of the morning of August 28th local time, approximately 700 hectares of land have been burned. Residents of Neretva were evacuated to nearby villages, and the jurisdiction highway was forced to close. 294 firefighters and 86 fire trucks participated in the firefighting efforts, with 3 firefighters injured in the process of fighting the wildfires. After a night of fighting, the fire has been mostly brought under control, with around 250 nearby houses undamaged. On the 28th, 33 firefighters and 10 fire trucks were dispatched from Zagreb to the Dalmatian coast to participate in follow-up work.
