On July 18th local time, the US Treasury Department released the International Capital Flow Report (TIC) for May 2024. The report shows that the net income of all overseas US long-term and short-term securities and bank inflows in May totaled USD15.8 billion, of which net inflows of private capital overseas were USD7.3 billion, and official overseas inflows were USD8.6 billion. In May, foreign investors' holdings of US long-term securities decreased by USD16.7 billion. Among them, foreign private investors' holdings of US long-term securities decreased by USD17.7 billion, while foreign official institutions' holdings of US long-term securities increased by USD1 billion. In May, US investors' holdings of foreign long-term securities increased by USD37.8 billion. If the overseas investment portfolio purchased by stock swap of US stocks is taken into account, it is estimated that the net total amount of foreign investors' holdings of US long-term securities in May decreased by USD54.6 billion. In May, foreign investors' holdings of US Treasury bonds decreased by USD9.8 billion, while foreign investors' holdings of all USD-denominated US short-term securities and other custody bonds increased by USD4.7 billion.
