According to data released by the Korean Automobile Manufacturers Association (KAMA), the Korean Imported Automobiles Association (KAIDA), and the Customs Office on June 30, the import car sales in South Korea reached a five-year low for the first five months of this year, and import values hit a four-year low. The data showed that the import car sales from January to May this year were 102,957 units, a decrease of 9,284 units compared to the same period last year (105,778 units), a record low since 2019. The import car sales refer to the sum of the import car sales statistics of the Korean Imported Automobiles Association, Tesla imported cars, and imported cars produced under license (OEM) (GM Korea and Renault Samsung Motors) in South Korea. Meanwhile, the car import value for the same period was 5.62346 billion US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 1.4 billion US dollars, hitting a record low since 2020.
