On June 1, Lu Zheng, chief economist of Industrial Bank, stated at the 12th SIIFC International Conference in 2024 that China is the main leading force for global sustainable development. In recent years, green finance has shown a rapid development trend from “freehand drawing” to “gongbi painting”, and policies have also moved from calling and guiding to mandatory implementation. Achieving a “gongbi drawing” involves various aspects, but after thorough analysis, it can be determined that the carbon footprint is the core of the next development of green finance. Political commissioner Lu explained that the carbon footprint mainly includes four categories: one is the organization's carbon emissions, the second is the carbon emissions of products, the third is the implicit carbon emissions of CBAM, and the fourth is carbon emissions from the carbon market. There are certain differences between these accounting methods. A large amount of basic work is needed around the accounting of carbon footprints, their data, methodology, statistical certification, disclosure, and even promotion of international mutual recognition. This huge project has only just begun.
