According to TrendForce Jibang Consulting statistics, global sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs; including pure electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles) totaled 2.842 million units in the first quarter of 2024, an annual increase of 16.9%. This is the first time in the past three years that an annual increase of less than 20% in a single quarter. Among them, sales of pure electric vehicles (BEVs) were 1.8 million units, an increase of 4.2% per year, while sales of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) were 1.041 million units, an increase of 48.3% per year. In the pure electric vehicle segment, Tesla won the championship with a market share of 21.5%, and BYD (excluding Tense) ranked second, with a market share of 16.6%. However, looking at the annual growth rate, Tesla is -8.5% and BYD is 13.3%. SAIC-GM-Wuling ranked third, and BMW jumped to fourth place for the first time, increasing sales by 41.1% over the same period last year. In the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle segment, the BYD brand continues to be the PHEV sales leader.
