The head of the Consumer Promotion Department of the Ministry of Commerce discussed the situation in China's consumer market in April 2024. Retail sales of goods increased 2.0% year over year in April. Sales of upgraded products grew rapidly. Retail sales of communication equipment and sports and entertainment products per unit above the limit increased 13.3% and 12.7%, respectively. Sales of new energy vehicles continued to grow rapidly, with sales increasing by 33.5% year on year, accounting for 36% of new vehicle sales. Household consumption grew steadily, and retail sales of household appliances and furniture per unit above the limit increased by 4.5% and 1.2%, respectively.
