Tesla's Shanghai Energy Storage Gigafactory has started construction in the new Lingang area of Shanghai. Tesla's Shanghai energy storage plant covers a total area of about 200,000 square meters. The factory is close to Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory. This is also Tesla's first energy storage gigafactory project outside the US. Tesla's senior vice president Zhu Xiaotong explained that Tesla's Shanghai Energy Storage Gigafactory is Tesla's first energy storage gigafactory outside the mainland of the United States. It is also another major investment project in China in the ten years since Tesla entered China, following the Shanghai Gigafactory. “This plant not only represents another important position for Tesla in the global energy storage layout, but is also proof that it plays a key role in the global energy transition.”
